The Shelby Huskies routed the Heartland Huskies to the tune of 56-6 in Class D1 prep action Friday night.
Shelby jumped to a three touchdown lead as Derek Swanson scored the first of his four touchdowns on an 8-yard pass from Jake Hopwood.
Swanson then made it 12-0 when he had a 50 yard reception for a score from Hopwood and Seth Houdersheldt added a 7-yard run all before the end of the first quarter for a 20-00 lead.
Heartland’s only score of the night came on a William Epp 74 yard kick-off return.
Shelby would get two more scores from Houdersheldt on runs of 25, and 5 yards, Swanson added a 59 yard punt return and an 18-yard touchdown reception, while Aaron Alt capped the scoring on an 11-yard run.
Epp led the Heartland team in rushing with 44 yards, while Houdersheldt shredded the Huskies defense for 269 yards on 23 carries. Heartland finished with 106 yards of total offense to Shelby’s 425, with 315 coming on the ground.
