Malcolm,NE —
On Tuesday night the York Cornerstone Gold baseball team scored 28 runs on 14 hits, and swept past Malcolm in DH action.
The Junior Gold won the opener 17-2, and took the nightcap as well, with an 11-6 win.
That improves the Gold’s record to 3-3-1 on the year, and they will host Lincoln Lutheran tonight at Levitt Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
On Tuesday night the Gold rapped out 11 hits in the opener, and a 10 run fourth inning was the clincher for the Gold offense.
Starting pitcher Zach Taylor was on top of his game as he allowed only four hits in the five inning win, and he sent 11 batters back to the bench via the “K”. He showed great control by not walking a single batter.
On the offensive side, Taylor helped out his own cause by going 2-4 at the plate and that included a 2-run HR, while Chauncey Miller and Nate Brackhan both were 3-5. Miller scored four runs and knocked in three runs, while Brackhan had a pair of doubles, scored three times and had two RBI.
As a team the Gold pounded out 11 hits. Miller was also noted for a very good defensive play in the first when he made a diving catch.
The second game the York CSG took advantage of wildness on the part of the Malcolm staff as they had only three hits, but scored four times in the third, all on walks. That four run third wiped out a 5-4 Malcolm lead and the York team never looked back.
On the hill Dustin Schumacher went 1 1/3, and gave way to Connor Zumpfe who closed the door on the Malcolm offense, only allowing three hits and one run.
Offensively Zumpfe and Ryan Salsman went 1-3, and both knocked in a pair of runs. Taylor was also 1-3.
The second game ended after four innings due to the 2-hour time limit.
