GENEVA (TICKER) —The United States women’s Olympic basketball team will begin its quest for a fourth straight gold medal against the Czech Republic on August 9.
At the draw on Sunday, Team USA was placed into Group B along with China, the Czech Republic, Mali, New Zealand and Spain. Group A consists of Australia, Belarus, Brazil, Korea, Latvia and Russia.
After facing the Czechs, Team USA will take on China on August 11, followed by games against Mali, Spain and New Zealand.
The quarterfinals take place August 19, with the semifinals two days later followed by the gold medal and bronze games on August 23.
Since women’s basketball was staged at the 1976 Olympics, the Americans have collected a record five gold medals to go along with one silver and one bronze, while compiling a 42-3 record.
